The Finish Line Is Well-Being

Run for healthy environments for children in Colombia.

This year, the Bogotá Half Marathon and UNICEF are joining forces to promote healthy lifestyles and strengthen environments that protect the well-being of children and adolescents.

A reality we cannot ignore

In Colombia, everyday habits are affecting the health of children and adolescents.

  • 3 out of 10 have excess weight.
  • 3 out of 4 do not consume enough fruits and vegetables.
  • 3 out of 4 drink sugary beverages.
  • More than 80% frequently consume packaged and ultra-processed foods.
  • 1 out of 2 regularly consume fried foods.
  • 8 out of 10 adolescents exceed the recommended daily limit for screen time.

These patterns affect their physical, mental, and emotional development and increase the risk of disease later in life.

A race that promotes the holistic development of children

Through the Healthy Lifestyles Strategy, UNICEF leads actions that transform the environments where children live, learn, and grow.

With a territorial approach, UNICEF works with schools, families, and local authorities to respond to the specific realities of each region and strengthen capacities and skills that ensure sustainable results.

Promoting

  • Healthy eating, encouraging informed choices and reducing the consumption of ultra-processed foods.
  • Hygiene and self-care practices, which help prevent illness from early childhood.
  • Physical activity, play, and rest, essential for physical, cognitive, and socio-emotional development.

Before you hit the road, ask yourself:

Antes de correr, pregúntate

  • What decisions do you make when choosing food?
  • What habits are you modeling at home?
  • How much space do you make for movement and rest?

Running for this goal also means committing to more conscious habits in your daily life
